“Studying at ECC gave me the confidence to speak English as I could never, ever have imagined. I was in Zambia (Africa) three times in two years. This country was colonised by the British. So, the Zambians speak some idioms and English , with a very strong accent. The first time I was there, in 2010, I could not understand them very well and even speak. When I was young, I studied English for six years in a well-known English school in Brasília, but my speaking was very limited. I came back to Zambia in 2011 and for the third time last July, I had the opportunity to speak English for 20 days. To my happiness – after having classes in ECC for 1 year and a half – my English was really good. I realized that when I made dinner, one night, to an American diplomat, my fiancé´s friend, who lives in Zambia. He asked me where I had been learning English because I could speak very well. I was really happy! First, I thought he had said that because he is a diplomat but other people told me the same. It was much easier for me to understand people from other nationalities such as the Italians, Indians, Cubans, Dutch and Russian, speaking English. Everybody could understand me! I know that my dedication was fundamental for my learning, but Teacher Mariany involves us in her approach to the language and English really becomes part of our lives. The discussions and videos shown in our classes make us think about our lives, too. She chooses them very carefully. Now, almost every day I watch a lecture from TED or read a text from The Economist. Thank you ECC, for making me speak, read and listen to English in such an effective way. And thank you, Mariany. You are the best teacher I have ever had!” |
